This is what the Lord says:
“Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
I appointed watchmen over you and said,
‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’
But you said, ‘We will not listen.’
After yesterday’s ponderings in light of the state of this world, and the untold depths of tragedy and pain I find comfort in these words. Many events such a typhoons and other natural diasters cannot be stopped and there is a rightful crying out to God for mercy but when I think of the wars we create and the added destruction natural diasters bring to parts of the world that lack the infrasturcture others of us have the luxury of these words humble me and cause me to pause. We choose to keep the knowledge we have for ourselves, we do not share with those who truly need our skills and resources to give them a fighting chance against natural diasters. We force others into a corner and lord it over them so that they ar eleft with only one option – revolt and weapons to fight back.
Let us all stop and look at the cross roads in front of us today and this week and ask God which is the good way and then walk in it whatever the personal cost may be to us to ensure all get to taste God’s mercy and compassion.
