This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy one of Israel says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quiteness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it…
As I read the Isaiah passage I was reminded of the words above in Matthew. Repentance and rest are both in and through Christ. Life lived in quietness and trust are were we find are strength. So often we look for the big, the highs, the events that bring us praise and admiration and then speak of exhaustion and burn out (sometimes as though those are a badge of honour). But God calls us to Himself in quietness, rest and repentance to find our strength for all the good works, big, small, seen and unseen, that He has prepared for us this day.
