As I was reading through Deuteronmy 28 this morning I was struck by the repetition of being called to fully obey God.
If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands…The Lord your God will set you high.
All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God.
Well who does not want blessings? But we only need to look at our own lives and the lives of those retold to us in the Bible to know that fully obeying God’s commands is something none of us can do on our own. And yet we do see times of blessing come on God’s people and many of us can atest to times of blessing ourselves.
We have the whole Bible, we know the bigger picture. God does ask us to fully obey, to be perfect as He is perfect, but to do so through the power of the Holy Spirit, trusting in His Son and His work on the cross. He is the God of mercy and grace, slow to anger.
So take hope today as you step out in faith to fully obey and seek to be perfect as He is perfect. Go in the strength of His Spirit, returning time and again to the cross to find forgiveness and redemption to press on which in itself is blessing beyond all measure.
